Unity is the Point

From conception to finalized docudrama, That They May Be One took six years to complete. Early on in the process, one day a few of us gathered to pray, asking the Lord for His vision on this project. As we prayed and worshipped the Lord, something happened that no one in the room expected. The Holy Spirit descended on us with a powerful message. It felt heavy, like a weighty lament. We recognized God’s word to us. It was Jesus weeping over His beloved people, just as Luke describes in the Gospel: “When Jesus drew near and saw the city, he wept over it, saying, ‘Would that you, even you, had known on this day the things that make for peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes… because you did not know the time of your visitation’” (Luke 19:42, 44b).

Yet at the very end, there was this little flicker of joy, even laughter. Hope still has the final word because “the One who sits in the heavens laughs” knowing He has sent His begotten Son, who is our hope” (see Psalm 2). It was as if the Lord was telling us that in this time of visitation, we still have a choice to respond with open hearts, and our decision changes the outcome.

We knew in our spirits that the Lord was putting His finger on something regarding the message of this film. Not because this film is “a big deal.” Not because an imperfect movie made by imperfect people is the point, but because the message is the point. This is not our film. It’s His because it’s His heart cry. The message is straight from the heart of Jesus: “that they may be one” (John 17:21). And unity is the point. Our final goal is to become one Bride in complete communion with the Trinity.

Here’s what has been pressing on us: In this time of visitation, there is an invitation being extended to the Body of Christ right now. A moment, not the moment, but one of many moments when we get to either ignore Jesus’ prayer… or we get to say, “Yes, Lord. We will answer You.” Either way, it speaks to a watching world. If Christians shrug at unity, that is a statement to the world. And if Christians rally, if we lean into what Jesus is asking for with humility, with repentance, with real love, what a statement to the world!

The point is that God is giving us an opportunity to proclaim something with our lives: Jesus is Lord, and His Bride is meant to be one in Him.

So we’re asking you, if this moves your heart, would you help proclaim it?
