Daily Reflections & Journal Prompts

  • Jesus told the disciples to wait for the promise of the Father. Read Acts 1:4-5.

What is the promise of the Father?

  • Do you believe this same promise is for the church today?

Do you believe it is for you?

Whether your answer is “yes” or “no,” write down some reasons for your answer. These may come from your own experience, from Scripture, or from other sources.

Father, thank you for revealing to me that Your promise of Your Holy Spirit dwelling in me, as in He did in the early Christians after the day of Pentecost, is for all Christians, including me! Show me any obstacles in my life, whether in thought or deed, that keep me from fully believing this promise is for all generations and for me.

Daily Scripture

"And while staying with them he ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, he said, 'you heard from me; for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now” (Acts 1:4–5).

"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth” (Acts 1:8).

"When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit” (Acts 2:1–4)

"I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams” (Acts 2:17).

“Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself” (Acts 2:38–39).
