Daily Reflections & Journal Prompts

  • The Azusa Street Revival had no polish, no platform, no performance. Consider your faith and your walk with the Lord.

Can you identify any ways in which you are overly dependent on control, image, or “having it together”?

  • Seymour hid himself so that attention stayed on God. Where in your life are you craving attention or affirmation? What would humility look like there?

Can you think of an area in your life in which you have “hidden” yourself - or should do so - so that attention stays on God?

  • Deacon Ralph, our host, read from Acts 4:13 - “Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated, common men, they were astonished. And they recognized that they had been with Jesus.” Like Peter and John, William Seymour was a man of prayer, a man who spent time with Jesus. Do you set aside a regular time each day to pray and be with Jesus? Is Jesus asking you to give Him more of your time simply to be with Him?

  • According to the world’s standards, William Seymour was an unlikely person to be chosen for a key leadership role in a pivotal time in history. Yet he was God’s chosen vessel to lead the Azusa Street Revival. Do you believe that God can use you and others as He wills to fulfill His plans? If your answer is “yes,” write a prayer of trust and surrender to God that He might call, equip, and lead you according to His plan. If your earnest answer is “no,” ask the Lord to reveal why it is difficult to believe He can choose to use you. Write down what He shows you and surrender it to Him.

If this prayer plan is drawing you closer to the Lord, please share it with a friend!
